September’s Photo Challenge from Blogging Abroad helped us focus in our our town – Estelí, Estelí. While our other photos are from all around Nicaragua, this challenge was completed just with pictures from our site. May these photos give you a glimpse into the beauty, complexity, and wonder that is Estelí.

Choose your own adventure in #transportation. I might live in the 3rd largest city in Nicaragua, but that horse is definitely just wandering around by itself. I love #mytown. #peacecorpsnicaragua #peacecorps #citylife #butstillkindacountry #bloggingabroad #BAphotochallenge #howiseepc

It may not be much, but our little balcony #garden brings me such joy. I love the vibrancy and contrast of colors, harvesting the tiny chilies and sharing them with neighbors, and how something so simple can be a gentle reminder to slow down and breathe. #peacecorpsnicaragua #peacecorps #bloggingabroad #BAphotochallenge #haymastiempoquevida #howiseepc #greenthumbintraining

As English volunteers, we tend to notice #signs in English and hope the grammar and spelling aren’t atrocious. Sometimes, though, the improper literal translations are even better. #peacecorpsnicaragua #peacecorps #Englishsigns #mytown #health #redallthefineprint #trynottogiggle #bloggingabroad #BAphotochallenge

For phone service in Nicaragua, you have two options: Movistar or Claro. They have pay-as-you-go plans and there are places to buy “saldo” on every corner. I rather like the simplicity, and while I won’t miss the loud advertisements blasting through the streets, I have a strong feeling I’ll miss this competitive combo here in a few months. #peacecorpsnicaragua #peacecorps #signs #communication #mytown #claro #movistar #chiclero #dumbphoneswag #minedoesntevenhaveT9 #bloggingabroad #BAphotochallenge

Sunrise procession to the Esteli Cathedral. Approximately 73% of Nicaraguans are Catholic and another 15% attend various evangelical churches. It’s facinating to see #religion through new eyes. #peacecorpsnicaragu #peacecorps #mytown #eyeofthebeholder #howiseepc #bloggingabroad #BAphotochallenge #nofilter

What a wonderful glimpse into your life right now. It will probably feel a little strange to come back to the USA … I’m glad you are enjoying and embracing your experiences, they will always be a part of who you are.
You’re so right, Susan. Just like all of you are a part of who we are.
